From Classroom to Stage: Denetia School Students Shine with Hip Hop Performance

Artscan Circle is thrilled to have collaborated with Jess Dance and Denetia School to bring artist Bruce Bryant to Lower Post, who facilitated a hip-hop workshop series on October 27 – 29, 2025.

This First Nation community falls under School District 87 Stikine in northern British Columbia and serves as a crucial part of education in the rural and remote north.

Bruce Bryant (aka B_Almighty) is a passionate dance instructor with nearly 15 years of experience in styles like hip hop, popping, locking, animation, and Memphis Jookin’. A childhood cancer survivor, Bruce brings deep insight into human movement and expression. He’s known for high-energy teaching that blends dance history, philosophy, and technique, inspiring others through his unique perspective and love for the art.

Thank you to The Azerili Foundation for their generous support and making this workshop possible!

Testimonial

“With the support of ArtsCan Circle, Denetia School was thrilled to welcome Bruce Bryant from Jess Dance for three days of hip hop dance teaching at our school. From the moment he arrived, Bruce connected and immersed himself with the students, staff, parents and community. His warm energy, flexibility, and ability to meet students at their level made a meaningful impact in our school community.

Bruce has a natural ability to connect with youth while encouraging them to try new things and express themselves through dance. He created an engaging, fun and supportive environment that brought out the confidence and enthusiasm of our students. Bruce taught the school a complete hip hop routine that they performed for families and community members on the third day of his visit. Both the parents and students were very impressed and proud of the performance.

One of our students has been practicing his dance moves every day since Bruce's visit and has shown interest in continuing to pursue dance! All of the students have asked when Bruce can come back to the school. ArtsCan Circle, Jess Dance and Bruce brought an amazing opportunity to our community and instilled a love of hip hop dancing that has continued since.

We are deeply grateful to Bruce for sharing his passion and expertise with our school, and we extend our sincere thanks to ArtsCan Circle and Jess Dance for making this experience possible. It was truly an amazing week, and we are hoping to have Bruce back in our community again in the future.”
