Bridging Cultures Through Art, Music, and Poetry in Pikangikum
Artscan Circle is pleased to announce a successful collaboration with Eenchokay Birchstick School to host artist Moon for a week-long workshop in Pikangikum from October 20 to 24, 2025. This initiative involved 50 students who engaged in a variety of artistic activities.
Students received an introduction to jewelry-making and a music workshop.
The curriculum included an exploration of the history and cultural significance of waist beads and warrior beads, particularly in Africa and the Caribbean.
Students also learned to create polyrhythms using various instruments, delve into the fundamentals of songwriting, and collaboratively compose and record a song with artist Moon.
MOON is a two-spirit multidisciplinary artist, born on Turtle Island to Jamaican parents. Through their work, MOON embraces the power of music, art, and poetry to foster connections among individuals. “By acknowledging our shared humanity, we can heal and bridge the gaps that try to tear us apart.”
We extend our gratitude to our sponsor, TD Ready Commitment, in support of creative art projects in northern Indigenous communities.
Testimonial
“Working with MOON and ArtsCan Circle has been a transformative experience for our students. Through music and creative expression in the form of jewellery making, they have inspired a renewed sense of confidence, cultural pride, and hope. The joy and energy they bring to each session remind our students that their voices and stories matter — that art can heal, connect, and empower. I am indeed very grateful to ArtsCan Circle and Moon for the invaluable contributions to our School.”
