A Continued Partnership with Dene Tha’ Community School
In December 2025, Artscan Circle delivered a week-long Music Workshop at Dene Tha’ Community School in Chateh, Alberta, led by Indigenous artist and educator Cindy Paul. Students took part in music creation, visual art, and cultural teachings, supporting self-expression, confidence, and well-being.
In addition to in-person workshops, students at Dene Tha’ Community School also participate in weekly online music lessons with Annette Street Music. These ongoing virtual lessons are an important part of the program, providing consistent instruction, skill-building, and mentorship throughout the school year. This continuity helps students strengthen their musical abilities, stay engaged, and maintain momentum between in-person residencies.
Chateh is a northern community within Dene Tha’ First Nation, where access to arts programming can be limited. Through Artscan Circle’s long-standing partnership with the school, students were able to engage in culturally grounded arts education.
Cindy Paul, a Cree/Métis producer, songwriter, and educator from Northern Alberta, also supported students in preparing for their Christmas recital. Thanks to donor support and donated instruments, the school’s music room continues to grow as a vibrant space for creativity, healing, and learning.
Artscan Circle is proud to continue working with Dene Tha’ Community School to ensure Indigenous youth have sustained access to the arts.
