From Dance to Community: The Impact of Hip Hop Workshop Series in Northern BC
Artscan Circle is thrilled to have collaborated with Jess Dance and Atlin School to bring hip hop artist Bruce Bryant to Atlin on October 22 – 24, 2025. Atlin is a First Nation community that falls under School District 87 Stikine in northern British Columbia and serves as a crucial part of education in the rural and remote north.
Bruce Bryant (aka B_Almighty) is a passionate dance instructor with nearly 15 years of experience in styles like hip hop, popping, locking, animation, and Memphis Jookin’. A childhood cancer survivor, Bruce brings deep insight into human movement and expression. He’s known for high-energy teaching that blends dance history, philosophy, and technique, inspiring others through his unique perspective and love for the art.
Testimonial
“A bit of a story behind the Welch's was that Bruce wanted to replicate the idea of a potlatch and so he came and gave out some Welch's to the kids. On the last day, we had a brief assembly to celebrate and say farewell to Bruce. We had some parents and members of the community show up and dance with us as he gave a brief tutorial while also performed showcasing all the moves he taught to the classes. What an experience! A million and one thanks to ArtsCan Circle for supporting us here at Atlin School.
We also have received the boxes of swag! We distributed them last week, and I just got the box of bags last Friday so I will be distributing them as well this week. The kids and parents loved them! We could see all the toques being used by staff and students yesterday at the community's Remembrance Day assembly in town. Thank you!!!”
